NAN Architects was founded by Nan Xu in Shanghai in 2014. Our portfolio encompasses architecture, bridges, urban planning, interior spaces, and industrial products. NAN's design philosophy views architecture as a cultural and social medium that transcends pure functionality. We believe architectural practice should be a process that weaves together engineering precision and emotional resonance, material wisdom and collective memory. Rather than striving for a single objective, our design seeks a dynamic balance between rationality and sensibility, between pragmatic constraints and the expansion of imagination, continuously generating and constructing meaning.
At NAN, environmental responsibility, structural innovation, and the clear articulation of space are at the core of our practice. We strive for more than merely "problem-solving"; through each project, we are committed to fostering an open dialogue with the site, the people, and the social fabric. Whether designing educational institutions, public facilities, hospitality projects, or infrastructure and urban strategies, we continuously explore how architecture can forge new relationships among form, community, and ecology.
Nan Xu is the founder of NAN Architects and a National Class 1 Registered Architect in China. He holds a Master of Architecture from the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in the United States, where he completed his studies with a full scholarship as a "Morgenstern Scholar". Prior to this, he earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the School of Architecture at Harbin Institute of Technology. He previously practiced at Atelier Deshaus in Shanghai and SOM in Chicago, and has been invited to serve as a visiting design critic and studio instructor at Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the China Academy of Art.
Nan Xu has received numerous accolades in the field of design, including the Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) "Best of Best" in 2019 and 2023, and the German Iconic Awards "Best of Best" in 2021. In the same year, he won the First Prize for Outstanding Engineering Survey and Design in Chongqing. He was awarded the Chief Jury Prize at the Golden Tile (Jinwa) Awards in 2022, and the Platinum Award at the Outstanding Property Award London (OPAL) in 2023. In 2025, he was honored with the "Outstanding Young Chinese Architect Award" by the authoritative academic journal UED, and was shortlisted for the Design Experiment Award of the WA Awards for Chinese Architecture. His works have been widely featured in renowned domestic and international media and academic journals, including ArchDaily, Designboom, gooood, Time + Architecture, and UED.
NAN由南旭于2014年成立于上海。设计作品涵盖建筑、桥梁、规划、室内空间和工业产品。NAN的设计哲学将建筑视为超越纯粹功能的文化与社会媒介。我们认为，建筑实践应当是将工程的精确性与情感的共鸣、材料的智慧与集体的记忆彼此连缀的过程。我们的设计并非致力于单一目标的达成，而是在理性与感性、现实制约与想象延展之间寻找动态平衡，以此不断生成、建构意义。
在NAN，环境责任、结构的创新性以及空间的清晰表达是我们工作的核心。我们追求的不仅仅是“解决问题”，而是致力于通过每一个项目，以更开放的方式与地点、人与社会结构展开对话。无论是教育建筑、公共设施、酒店项目，还是基础设施与城市策略，我们持续探索建筑如何在形式、社区与生态之间生成新的关联。
南旭，NAN建筑事务所创始人、一级注册建筑师。毕业于美国伊利诺伊理工大学建筑学院，获建筑学硕士学位，并以“Morgenstern Scholar”全额奖学金完成学业；此前毕业于哈尔滨工业大学建筑学院，获建筑学学士学位。曾任职于大舍建筑设计事务所（上海）与 SOM（芝加哥），并受邀在同济大学、上海交通大学及中国美术学院担任客座设计导师。
南旭在设计领域屡获殊荣，包括2019年和2023年荣获美国建筑大师奖（American MasterPrize）至尊奖，2021年获得德国标志性设计奖（Iconic Awards）至尊奖，同年获重庆市优秀工程勘察设计一等奖。2022年斩获金瓦奖首席评委大奖，并于2023年获得伦敦杰出房地产奖（OPAL）白金奖。2025年获得权威学术期刊UED评选的 “中国优秀青年建筑师奖”。2025年入围 WA中国建筑奖设计实验奖。作品多次被《Archdaily》、《Designboom》、《谷德》、《时代建筑》、《UED》等国内外知名媒体和学术期刊报道。
